1/43 AVS SHADOW SHADOW Mosport 1970 Kit Completed
The Shadow Mk1, developed by AVS (Advanced Vehicle Systems), was an innovative prototype that appeared in the 1970 North American Sports Car Endurance Championship "Can-Am." The car, which ran in the Mosport race, is particularly known as a symbol of the team's early challenges. AVS, led by founder Don Nichols, adopted the bold idea of "reducing resistance to the extreme" to compete against the existing forces, designing an unorthodox machine characterized by an unusually low ride height and extremely small tires. The Mk1 was aerodynamically superior, but due to its extreme design, it had problems with stability and tire load, making it difficult to handle in actual races.
In the 1970 Mosport race, entered to challenge the then-dominant McLaren team, but the machine had problems with reliability and balance, and did not reach the top ranks. Nevertheless, the car demonstrated Shadow's attitude of attempting bold technological innovation, laying the foundation for later famous cars such as the DN4. Although the challenge at Mosport did not yield results, it became the starting point for Shadow to show its presence as an original constructor in Can-Am history.
